 Welcome Second Grade!

I am looking forward to a very successful year! Each night, please take a moment to look over the notes/papers that you child may be bringing home. A Weekly Homework Packet will be sent home on Mondays. Packets are due on Fridays. A monthly behavior chart will be placed in the back of your child’s home-school connection folder as well. Here you will be able to see how you child’s behavior was for the day. Please initial this chart over the weekend and put it back in your child’s red apple folder so he/she is ready to use it again the next week.

I know that you and your child are very busy and have many commitments outside of school; therefore homework that is given will be meaningful and will pertain to the day’s studies. Your child will be expected to read at home for at least twenty minutes a night. This small time of reading each night can increase your child’s reading skills dramatically. Also, basic math facts/flashcards are something else that I hope you can practice with your child at home as often as possible. It is my goal to create a rich learning environment that meets the needs of your child. I will do this by creating assignments/activities where students are engaged and actively participating in school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me before or after school at (708) 895-3030 or email me at apelke@sd171.org.
