Welcome to FIRST GRADE!

My name is Mrs. Blount and I am SO excited to be part of the Nathan Hale First Grade team! More importantly,
I am THRILLED to be your student's teacher!
First grade is full of lots of learning and new adventures!

About Mrs. Blount

I was born in New Orleans but raised in Dyer, Indiana and went to Lake Central Schools.  I am married to my wonderful husband Danny! We have one daughter named Brettelynn (Brette) and one son named Maxson (Max). We also have a miniature schnauzer named Sophie and a pitbull named Willow! I went on to study at Purdue University, West Lafayette where I majored in Elementary Education! I just recently completed a certification program in
English Language Learners through Governors State University!

I am in my 9th year of teaching first grade! I love first grade so much because it is a year of tremendous growth!  My goal is to be a guide and mentor for you as we embark on a yearlong journey filled with
"excitement, challenges, and learning opportunities!

Important things to know about ROOM 10!
  • Room 10 uses flexible seating! This allows students to select a learning location that works best for them! Come in the room and check it out! We have yoga balls, couches & comphy chairs, stability cushions, wobble stools, and more! Any questions- just ask!

  • Room 10 uses community supplies- this means that we will use each others glue and crayons throughout the year. This allows for quick transitions and builds our classroom family! Any leftover supplies will be returned. Because of this, your student will NOT need a crayon box.

  • Nathan Hale does NOT allow food treats to be brought in for holidays or birthdays. Please send an alternative treat such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.

  • If you want to volunteer in room 10, please let me know! There is a packet that must be filled out, but we would love to have classroom helpers!

  • Contact me any time! Join and use Dojo class messenger, email (, or phone (708.895.3030 etc 2161).

  • If you let Mrs. Blount know about special upcoming events (recitals, sporting games, etc.) I will make every effort to attend!
