Phonemic Awareness Ideas

Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear, identify and distinguish individual sounds.  It is the ability to play with language.  If a child hears the word mat he/she should be able to separate the word into three distinct sounds--    /m/     /a/      /t/

Your child can also stretch a word with a slinky.  Stretch slowly and say the word slowly.
